WELCOME TO GRAVITY LOOP
The Speculative Fiction Comics Anthology

We are here because we have a story. Many stories, in fact, but each story is its own nonetheless. However brief, however fragmented, we have gathered pieces of imagination precious to us. These pieces are, ultimately, pieces of the world filtered through the prisms of our Selves, redirected outward in the form of artistic creation. We wish to push our minds in pursuit of the future in full knowledge of the past and understanding of the present. We gladly invite you to join in our speculation.

From codices to tapestries, from murals to mosaics, since the dawn of human thought painters and sculptors and their audiences and patrons alike have reveled in the power of the Image. The Word in all its forms has maintained a parallel potency, often intermingling with the Image in both practice and thought. We carry on in this global tradition through the medium of comics, the modern synthesis of those primordial practices, in service to the essential human practice of imaginative storytelling.

Any classical painting tells a story that will be entirely missed should the viewer not take the time to meditate on the faces of each figure, the gesture of their limbs and the character of the light illuminating them. Any great work of literature can be entirely misunderstood by any reader who simply does not strive to comprehend it. All art made in earnest remains a shallow artifice without the breath of life provided by its understanding witness. Gravity Loop is no different.

These are stories which reward engagement and dissection, no line or letter is placed in vain. We trust the reader to be able to discern when one story ends and another begins by recognizing changes in artstyle and subject without fanfare, to engage with every page and immerse themselves in the experience of jumping through truly unique realms of imagination and speculation, to not set genre expectations or seek familiar tropes. We believe unanswered questions can only make your mind stronger.

Our inspirations range throughout all mediums and genres. We admire writers like Franz Kafka, Jorge Luis Borges, and Gene Wolfe for their imaginations flung from the most grounded level of reality. We walk across the shoulders of giants, from Corto Maltese to Nemesis the Warlock, Blueberry to Blame!, Toppi to Breccia, our school of comics is global. We love film and music from all corners of the world, and we let no morsel of storytelling innovation escape our recognition. We find great meaning in our own respective backgrounds, as well as each other’s. We do not entertain the idea of AI “art”; the human element is our priority.

We hope, in the tradition of our heroes, that our stories will provide greater depth to the world around you, the one you see with your own eyes every day.
